Comedy Bound

13 Jul

I spent today in a car on my way to Montreal. Both of my parents are originally from the south shore so my family and I travel there quite frequently. Montreal is such a fabulous city. It has a great music scene, incredibly unique boutiques to explore and european architecture that puts all other Canadian cities to shame. But perhaps one of my favourite parts of the city is Old Montreal. Down by the water, Old Montreal has beautiful cobblestone streets with little restaurants and pubs where you can sit out on a patio and watch the passersby. This weekend is the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal -  an event which always promises some big names in comedy including the likes of Brad Garrett, Aziz Ansari, Steve Martin and . . . Pamela Anderson? With Baywatch, Dancing with the Stars and her work with PETA already under her belt the blonde bombshell is now adding comedy to her long list of talents. Pam will be hosting a variety gala at the St Denis theatre on July 15th and there is much anticipation buzzing around her performance. Let`s see, dancing, singing, comedy AND Pamela Anderson? Should be a good time. To check it out for yourself grab some tickets at Montreal.hahaha.com.

Metric Meets Twi-hards

24 Jun

Metric fans everywhere are about to get a huge dose of twilight-mania!! The newest movie in the Twilight saga, Elipse, features a brand new track from Torontonian band Metric! Their latest track Eclipse (All yours) apparently plays during the film’s final climactic fight scene. So while Twi-hards everywhere are eager to get themselves into Edward Cullen’s pants, Metric fans can be eager to get their hands on the latest Twilight album!
The newest Twilight album can be purchased now off Metric’s website or at your nearest music store. For a limited time, when you buy the Eclipse soundtrack on the Metric site, you can also get any one of Metric’s albums for 50% off the regular price – how sweet is that?!!?

Step Inside the Man Cave

21 Jun

For those of you who don’t know, last night was Spike tv’s 4th annual Guys Choice awards. Which, to be honest, is a pretty sweet show. All the awards either have to do with being hot, bad-ass, or funny-as-hell. Some of my favourite awards of last night were “Jean Claude Gahd Dam” which was awarded to Scarlett Johansson for being so gahd dam hot, “Biggest Ass-Kicker” which went to Jack Bauer (Keifer’s alter-ego), and finally, “Outstanding Literary Achievement” which went to Ozzy Osborne for a hilarious quote from his recent bio about the time he took a dump in a hotel hallway.

Chris Rock gave a killer performance while accepting his award for Funniest Motherf***er. While George Clooney beat out Zack Galifianakis for Man of the Year. And with the room packed with live tigers, sharks, mini skirts, super models and a pizza eating contest what’s not to love? The A-Team cast even brought granade launchers and semi-automatic machine guns onstage to present “Holy Grail of Hot” (which was taken home by Jessica Biel).

This is definitely my new favourite awards show!

1 LBD = 365 Days of Fun!

16 Jun

So I don’t know how many of you are familiar with The Story of Stuff  but it is an incredible video that talks about just what exactly all of our Stuff is doing to the planet and how we need to make a change. If you haven’t yet watched the video make sure you do!

It was The Story of Stuff that really got me interested in using sustainable materials and learning more about many of the sustainable projects out there.

One in particular, The Uniform Project  was sent to me by one of my best friends and I found it so inspiring that I just had to share it! The Uniform Project was started in May 2009 by Sheena Matheiken. As an exercise in sustainable fashion, Sheena pledged to wear 1 dress for 1 whole year. She took 7 identical dresses, one for each day of the week and reinvented the dress each day with layers and accessories, all of which are vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down.

Sheena also used The Uniform Project as a year-long fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation, to fund the education of children living in Indian slums.

Now, one year later, The Uniform Project has exploded. Girls around the world have grabbed hold of Sheena’s idea and are now choosing to wear her LBD for their own 365 days of experimental fashion! How awesome is that??

To check out more about the Uniform Project and see how other girls have gotten involved, check out the UP’s facebook page here.

Get Him to the Greek

13 Jun

When life hands you a Geoffrey, go see a funny movie. Last night I saw Get Him to the Greek – and loved it! For those of you who haven’t seen it (don’t worry I’m not going to spoil anything) stop wasting your time reading my stupid blog and go and watch it! I have to admit that I was sceptical at first, the previews didn’t look very funny – but they didn’t do it justice. Brand and Hill, though an unlikely team, made an awesome comedic pair. Then again, when you have Russell Brand, Jonah Hill and a smorgasbord of  rock star-worthy parties, it’s sure to be a good time. So what’s the story? Aaron Green (Hill) is a music company exec who has 72 hours to get out-of-control and downward-spiralling rock star Aldous Snow (Brand) from his pad in London to L.A.’s Greek Theatre. Of course we know hilarity will ensue, but will Green be able to get him to the Greek? You’ll have to see it to find out for yourself. But in the ever-growing line of Judd Apatow films, Get Him to the Greek is definitely one of my favourites.

Have you Googled Today?

10 Jun

Have you Googled yet today? If so, you may have noticed something colourful about the usually plain white background of Google’s homepage. The online empire announced last week that they were introducing a new feature that will allow you to customize the background of your Google homepage with your own photo – Love it!

To promote this new feature – and to give you a little bit of inspiration, Google has created a library of images from famous photographers, sculptors and artists to get you started. For the next 24 hours these images will rotate on the homepage, adding a little zest to your day!

Here’s the image that popped up for me:
