1 LBD = 365 Days of Fun!

16 Jun

So I don’t know how many of you are familiar with The Story of Stuff  but it is an incredible video that talks about just what exactly all of our Stuff is doing to the planet and how we need to make a change. If you haven’t yet watched the video make sure you do!

It was The Story of Stuff that really got me interested in using sustainable materials and learning more about many of the sustainable projects out there.

One in particular, The Uniform Project  was sent to me by one of my best friends and I found it so inspiring that I just had to share it! The Uniform Project was started in May 2009 by Sheena Matheiken. As an exercise in sustainable fashion, Sheena pledged to wear 1 dress for 1 whole year. She took 7 identical dresses, one for each day of the week and reinvented the dress each day with layers and accessories, all of which are vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down.

Sheena also used The Uniform Project as a year-long fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation, to fund the education of children living in Indian slums.

Now, one year later, The Uniform Project has exploded. Girls around the world have grabbed hold of Sheena’s idea and are now choosing to wear her LBD for their own 365 days of experimental fashion! How awesome is that??

Get Him to the Greek

13 Jun

When life hands you a Geoffrey, go see a funny movie. Last night I saw Get Him to the Greek – and loved it! For those of you who haven’t seen it (don’t worry I’m not going to spoil anything) stop wasting your time reading my stupid blog and go and watch it! I have to admit that I was sceptical at first, the previews didn’t look very funny – but they didn’t do it justice. Brand and Hill, though an unlikely team, made an awesome comedic pair. Then again, when you have Russell Brand, Jonah Hill and a smorgasbord of  rock star-worthy parties, it’s sure to be a good time. So what’s the story? Aaron Green (Hill) is a music company exec who has 72 hours to get out-of-control and downward-spiralling rock star Aldous Snow (Brand) from his pad in London to L.A.’s Greek Theatre. Of course we know hilarity will ensue, but will Green be able to get him to the Greek? You’ll have to see it to find out for yourself. But in the ever-growing line of Judd Apatow films, Get Him to the Greek is definitely one of my favourites.

Have you Googled Today?

10 Jun

Have you Googled yet today? If so, you may have noticed something colourful about the usually plain white background of Google’s homepage. The online empire announced last week that they were introducing a new feature that will allow you to customize the background of your Google homepage with your own photo – Love it!

To promote this new feature – and to give you a little bit of inspiration, Google has created a library of images from famous photographers, sculptors and artists to get you started. For the next 24 hours these images will rotate on the homepage, adding a little zest to your day!

Here’s the image that popped up for me:

Talking with Tanja

Tanja's new Reebok Bootcamp video

Last week, as part of my research for a 29Secrets.com article, I got to sit down and chat with personal trainer to the stars, Tanja Djelevic – well via e-mail anyways. Tanja is an LA based fitness instructor and has worked with the likes of Jennifer Garner, Uma Thurman, Kate Beckinsale and Pink! She is also currently in Sweden filming The Biggest Looser Sweden – how sweet is that??

Tanja was nice enough to chat briefly about her new workout video (a collaberation with Reebok) called Reebok Bootcamp. It’s a great video because it has lots of short workout routines. This means that you can pick and choose what workouts you like best – or perhaps more importantly, which ones you have time for.

To check out my chat with Tanja head on over to 29Secrets! Click Here! You can also enter to win a copy of Reebok Bootcamp! Just fill out an entry form at the bottom of the article!

Kissing at the MTV Movie Awards

7 Jun

Ryan and Rachel smooch it up in 2005

So did anyone watch the MTV movie awards last night? I missed them – unfortunately the males of my household had called dibbs on the tv for the NBA playoffs (at least I was able to get them to switch over to the Chicago-Philly game during commercials). But I DID see that Best Kiss performance that Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson gave. Awkward much? I know that they were going for teenage angst but they didn’t even end up kissing – Twilight fans everywhere must have been crying themselves to sleep last night.

Anyways, that poor kiss performance got me thinking about the 2005 awards – the year Ryan Gosling andRachel McAdams won best kiss. And how could we not forget a kiss like that? Their on screen Notebook heat transfered impecably onto the MTV stage. They planned it out perfectly, each of them taking to a different end of the stage and Rachel jumping into Ryan’s arms. Girls everywhere swooned – you can even see Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan falling over themselves in the audience.View it here.

So what happened Kris and Rob? What is the Best Kiss award for, if not to make teenage girls everwhere squeal with delight? The awkward fake out worked well last year but this year we wanted some tongue action. Sorry guys, but you definitely let us down.

Jelly Shoes & Gorgeous Legs

20 May

Is it just me or are jelly sandals making a comback this year?? Forever21, Steve Madden, even Gap is apparently getting in on the jelly craze!  And to be honest, I could not be happier about it! Jelly shoes are always so playful and fun – plus, they come in an array of colours which is perfect for those sunny summer days!

I love these cute fushia ones by Steve Madden. They come in four different colours and would be perfect with a pair of daisy dukes! Now all I need is a job so I can pay for them!

Game Days

20 May

Have you ever become obsessed with a video or computer game and spent an entire day playing it? For many of the men I know, this question is a rhetorical one – of course you have!! In fact, I’m pretty sure that I know of one or two people (I won’t name any names of course) that pulled several all-nighters trying to reach the next level of Halo.

I myself have recently rediscovered Roller Coaster Tycoon, and it’s so mind numbingly wonderful! I had completely forgotten what it was like to spend an entire day not having to worry about any kind of responsibilities. When your major concern is not being shot, killed or bankrupt and you finally emerge eight hours later, I have to say that I feel like I’m emerging from what feels like a theraputic coma.  There is something so stress-relieving in staring at a computer/tv screen all day, lost in an imaginary world. It’s no wonder my teenage brother locks himself in the basement for hours on end, only to emerge for dinner or a bursting-full bladder.

I have no idea why I thought that this would be a great or interesting topic for my blog but let me know what you guys think – do you love video games or are they just a waste of brain cells??
